2006 Hawk Hill Chardonnay (Russian
River Valley) $27
The Hawk Hill vineyard is out near Bodega towards the Sonoma Coast and
produces outstanding Chardonnay fruit; in fact the best I’ve ever
used. It suits the style of Chardonnay I wanted to make. It
has intense fruit, crisp acid and less reliance on oak for flavor. Uncommon
richness, citrus, tropical fruit flavors and a long finish make it a great
match with food. 308 cases produced.
2006 Red Table Wine (Sonoma
Valley) $14
Following the release of last year's very successful Red Table Wine, the
2006 version is again a blend of some of the wines that don't fit
into my top program; but still produce a solid and flavorful wine.
This year's blend is 70% Zinfandel from around the winery, 10% Syrah
from in front of the winery, 10% Pinot Noir and the remainder blended
from wines from my other programs. The final wine has a lovely
ripeness and sweetness, good richness and a long finish. A great
summer BBQ wine! 258 cases produced.
2005 Hillside Zinfandel (Sonoma County) $25
See why the Colorado Wine News wrote that this wine was runner-up as
the best Zinfandel at this year’s ZAP Festival at Fort Mason.
Intense raspberry fruit, great richness and good acidity all give
the wine intensity and complexity without the heaviness of excess
alcohol and oak. The fruit is from a vineyard in Russian River
on Limerick Lane (70%) and from the EnglandCrest vineyard here
at the winery. 283 cases produced.
2006 Late Harvest Red Wine (Sonoma
Valley) 500 ml $25
In 2006 my late harvest Zinfandel from the Stonetree vineyard was improved
by the addition of a small amount of dessert wines wine from Pinot
noir and Syrah, together with a tiny amount of Zinfandel juice from
the ’07 harvest. Stonetree vineyard produces wonderful
dessert wines as the late harvest Zinfandel retains wonderful acidity
and tannins to balance the richness of the sweeter wine. The
addition of the Pinot and Syrah has given additional complexity and
richness to also balance the sweetness. A great match with bittersweet
chocolate. 146 cases produced.
2006 EnglandCrest Syrah Port (Sonoma
Valley) 500 ml $28
Produced entirely using Syrah from the vineyard around the winery. This
port has incredibly rich color, great fruit intensity and excellent
balance. A great way to end the meal with good dark chocolate
or blue cheese! 208 cases produced.
